This summer, the Islamic Social Services Associations (ISSA) of the USA will be hosting their 2010 National Conference and Banquet, June 18-20, 2010 inshaAllah (God willing). We are inviting you to join ISSA and support its efforts by becoming a sponsor of our conference and banquet.
Since its inception in 1999, ISSA has held successful conferences bringing together academics, professionals, para-professionals and community volunteers to exchange ideas and support the efforts of Muslim social services. This year’s conference will be from June 18-20, 2010 in Detroit, Michigan. The theme is “Balancing the Building Blocks: Sustaining Social Services in Tough Times.”
Islamic Social Services Association was established in 1999 at a meeting of 60 Muslim social workers, mental health professional and counselors, in the Washington DC metro area. In 2003, ISSA split into two sister but independent organizations, one in USA and one in Canada. Both organizations work in collaboration and are registered charities. Visionary founders of ISSA are the late Dr. Maryam Funches, Dr. Aneesah Nadir, Dr Bilqis Eltarab and Shahina Siddiqui. As social work educators and practitioners, we, the ISSA leadership, cannot exaggerate the importance and relevance of our efforts for Muslims and for a just society.
